I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and ow thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried the which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars: And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name's sake hast labored, and hast patience, and for my name's sake hast labored, and hast not fainted. Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love Revelation 2: 2-4.
Notice in this Scripture there is much good that has and is being done. It says, I know your works, labor, patience, how you do not like evil, and have not fainted. In other words, through it all you have remained faithful. However verse four continues by say, nevertheless I have somewhat against you, you have left your first love.
I dare say many can related to this... Though we have been faithful in all of 2018, and have continued to work and labor in the Kingdom, and still abhor evil and cling to holiness. Yet we have let the cares of 2018, or maybe just the everyday drudge of life cause us to lose our zeal, fervor, excitement, or passion which is connected to "first love".
Because of lack of space, I am unable to quote Ezekiel 37: 1-14 concerning the vast number of dry bones found in the valley. Take time to read this portion of Scripture and do as verse four says, "...Prophesy upon these bones, and say uno them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of the Lord." We need to prophesy, speak the Word of the Lord over our lives... That which has become dry, complacent or dull, speak life and passion, do it with an energizing faith as found in I Thess. 1:3 in the AMP Bible, "Recalling unceasingly before our God and Father your work energized by faith and service motivate by love and unwavering hope in [the return of] our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah)."
At the beginning of the year I was beating myself up over not being all I felt I should and could be. The Holy Spirit had me revisit Phil. 3:9 and remind me it's not me but HIM! "...not having my own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness, which is of God by faith:" I was reminded, I am not righteous because of what I do, but I am righteous because of what HE has done... My righteous is in HIM!
There are times in our lives when it does us good to go back and revisit what we have known for years and allow the Holy Spirit to make it fresh and new once again. May we allow the Holy Spirit to remind us the importance of returning to our "first love" and to "do our first works" over again. Let's get a fresh passion for His Presence, His Word, His Will, and then let's follow hard after Him with full pursuit!
Phil. 3:13-14 "...I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press forward the mark of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus."
